After I posted the entry below, I received the email update about my grandfather. Mom suggested I compromise and try to finish my trip as best as possible before coming to Hawaii for what appears will be his funeral. (Wow. Crazy to write that.)
So as strange as it is, here's my new itin as I see it now. Leave Pakse, Laos (south) late this afternoon for Vientienne. Stay one night. Fly from there to Luang Prabang, Laos, and then on Jan. 7, fly to Bangkok. Then Jan. 8 or 9, I go directly from BKK to Hawaii. Hopefully, this all will work out with the airlines. I'm sort of in a daze now...
